REPORTS
President’s Report
Nil report was presented – a verbal discussion took place recapping the last years events and words of encouragement for the new office bearers for 2016. Thanked all the volunteers for their assistance and co-ordinating of the welcome bbq. The P&C have donated the cost of the jumping castle, so the canteen will receive all profits from this event to put towards fans for the canteen.

Principal’s Report
I would like to commence by thanking P&C members and parent volunteers for your organisation of Friday’s Welcome BBQ. It’s a fun, informal way for families to join the Soldiers Point School community & often leads to on-going family friendships. Well done and I’m pretty sure everyone had a good time.
I trust all parents who were able to attend the Parent Information Sessions held earlier in the year found the sessions to be beneficial. This year we had about 60% of parents attend.
I also remind parents that we are keen to promote strong channels of communication between school and home so you are encouraged to follow the procedures set out in the Communicating with the School flyer, which was available on the night or can be collected from the office.
We also greatly appreciate the school community’s support of the recent Ride 2 School & Clean up Our School day. It really was awesome to see so many students & parents wheel their way to & from school. We had more than 80 cyclists & 25 scooters on the day. Donations also amounted to $385 which we’ll put toward the purchase of some additional bike racks for the school.
Continuing with the healthy theme - the students have had an array of sporting opportunities already this term and this is set to continue with school teams participating in a range of sports in coming weeks.
Today, 3 students attended the Hunter Regional trials for AFL, next Tuesday our rugby team will be participating in the Rugby 7s and the Port Stephens Zone soccer trials will be held on Thursday, March 17.
One recent sporting highlight has been the success of Ebony Nix at the Port Stephens Zone & Hunter Region level for her swimming. Ebony was successful in gaining selection for the Hunter team to compete at the State Carnival in early April.
The school’s athletics carnival will be held on Tuesday, March 22, at Bill Strong Oval (AFL ground).
We will be celebrating Harmony Day on the afternoon of Monday, March 21, with some school-based ‘getting along’ activities.
Newcastle School Portraits will be taking our photos again in 2016. They will be visiting the school to photograph children on Tuesday, March 29. Additional information about this has been included in the newsletter. Students are expected to wear full school uniform on this day, including black school shoes.
As mentioned in my earlier report, the completion of the final stage of the Creative Play Spaces project is all but complete. The students are now appreciating full use of the equipment. We are currently contemplating a few ideas for the space above the fixed equipment which will add to the enjoyment of the area.
I thank the P&C and the parents of Soldiers Point Public School for their continued support and look forward to working closely with the new committee.

Calendar year 2015 Financial Statement preparation and review of the P&C including Uniform Shop and the Canteen conducted by Addison Partners
Conclusion “…nothing has come to our attention that causes us to believe that these financial statements do no present fairly, in all material respects, (or do not give a true and fair view of) the financial position of the Soldiers Point Public School P&C…..”

Canteen Report
The Canteen would like thank the P&C for the opportunity to raise funds at the welcome BBQ for new wall fans in the Canteen. We would like to say a huge thankyou to everyone who helped at the BBQ. In particular, Tristen and Deanne Cosgrove, Dean and Karen Jones, Rebekah Newell and her mum Margaret, Anna Maria Ford, Danielle Robinson, Brendan and Mr. McGregor.
After costs have been deducted we raised $567.25 I have been to Bunnings and they are going to source the best possible product for us at the best price and they are happy to accept a cheque for payment. I hope to hear back from them this week.
I would also like to thank Simon for the loan of the new fridge, it has helped us to keep our drinks cold and our food at a safe temperature in line with Workplace Health and Safety Policies. We have moved the double door glass fridge that is not in working order out to the back room of the Canteen. A decision needs to be made on where to proceed from here. There has been a suggestion that the old fridge could be sold off for parts or simply removed by the recycling centre. Dairy Farmers currently lend us a single glass door fridge as long as we stock their product. I have put in a request for that to be replaced with a double door fridge. Craig from Dairy Farmers is quite happy to talk to his management about this, however, we do not order enough product from them to warrant it. He is sending me a full list of what is available from Dairy Farmers, Deanne, Karen and I will sit down and work out if changing from our current supplier for some items to Dairy Farmers is cost effective and if so, there is a possiblity of an upgrade in fridge.
The Canteen will be running a Hot Cross Bun fundraiser for easter and order forms will go out with the next newsletter.
Once again thankyou to everyone for helping the Canteen to achieve its aims.

Uniform Shop Report
The Uniform Shop has continued to run smoothly this year. Brooke and I look forward to running the uniform shop if elected. Thank you again Belinda for maintaining a well run shop and for your ongoing assistance as required. Opening times on Tuesday mornings and Friday afternoons are still working well. We will try to maintain adequate stock levels so customers are not having to wait for stock to be ordered. Higher stock levels also helps with administration. We will utilise the Extended Credit from LWReid Pty Ltd (our main supplier) from the months of March to July to assist us with our winter uniform ordering. When ordering garments that have the School Logo, we have continued to order larger quantities of those items to ensure we get the best printing and embroidery charges. This assists in being able to maintain higher stock levels all year. The Uniform Account Balance is $6386.32. After our payments are made our balance will be $3464.30. School Improvement and Finance Committee Report
The sub-committee held their meeting on the 2nd March 2016. The minutes from this meeting can be read by clicking on the following link.
Thank you to everyone who attended our Daytime Chat Meeting on Feb 18th. We talked about the general roles and yearly expectations for the Events & Fundraisers team. We also talked about possible fundraising events and ideas for 2016. Some good ideas were suggested. We also asked for some new leaders to step up to the role of leading this Committee. This role needs people with enthusiasm, as new people generate fresh ideas and energy. We’re pleased to say that three people have put their hands up, and are volunteering their time and energy to take on the responsibilities of fundraising. All SPPS Parents are still encouraged to attend meetings and help out with any events and fundraisers that are organised throughout 2016. Trish and I will still be involved, and are looking forward to working with the new team. Moved by: Anna Webster Seconded by: David Smail
General Business
At the welcome BBQ Paula Browne suffered from a burn on her stomach. First Aid was administered immediately after incident took place. Tristen Cosgrove assisted Paula to the polyclinic for further ongoing treatment.
Discussion was raised whether Paula Browne holds a current First Aid Certificate and if the P&C could provide and fund this training for Paula to complete. Simon Parson advised all his teaching staff complete their first aid training on staff development days here at the school, and may be able to arrange with the P&C for Paula to attend one of these sessions when it is next on.
Meeting Closed at 8.45 pm. Next Meeting: Tuesday 10th May 2016.
