Topic: Uniform Price rise Discussion: Karen Jones discussed the need to increase some prices in the uniform shop due to a price rise from suppliers. Karen presented the facts of what the uniforms are bought and sold at and discussed the price rise from suppliers would not cover the cost of some items sold in the uniform shop. P&C voted and agreed on the increases needed to cover cost but made mention other ways of promoting quality used uniforms the school sells for those families that may find it difficult to purchase brand new uniforms. Action: To increase prices of some items to ensure the P&C could at least cover the cost from suppliers due to their price rise. Keeping the increase as minimal as possible to make it affordable for our families to purchase these uniforms from our Uniform shop. Karen to email a copy of final price increase to P&C, the price rise will not take effect until term 2. A uniform price list will be sent home to all families and used quality items will be promoted. Responsibility: Karen to email a copy of final price increase to P&C, the price rise will not take effect until term 2. APPENDIX A - PRESIDENTS REPORT
Welcome to our final P&C Meeting for 2016. The year has passed so quickly, it has been a busy period for us all in the SPPS school community but particularly for those of us in the P&C as we have worked steadily on our various fundraising events and activities. We have enjoyed the beginning of a new school year, watching our children settle into their new classes; new routines and helping any new students and parents feel part of our warm school community. The Welcome BBQ was a great example of how parents and staff alike turn out to support new faces and to make our school a more enjoyable and positive place to be. Our fab fundraising team pulled together the Annual Tea & Tissues and as expected did a great job. This small gesture is to welcome new mums as they see off their Kindergartener for the first time is something that all SPPS Mum’s remember and will look back on as a happy memory of their time at our school. Another great tradition and gesture of SPPS hospitality is the ever weather doomed Welcome BBQ. On cue the storm clouds rolled in but not before a fantastic turnout and show of support. Plenty of sausage sandwiches and jumps on the jumping castle were still snuck in while we were entertained by the tunes of our school Rock Band.

APPENDIX C - PRINCIPALS REPORT .Principal’s Items:
Rachel to provide information about the school musical.
I’d like to commence by congratulating the P&C for their organisation of this year’s Welcome BBQ which was a very exciting event. As intended, it enabled many new parents to meet other parents and allowed many of our children to have a friendly play on what turned out to be a stormy evening.
I commend the many parents who came along to our Parent Information Sessions earlier in the year, too. This year we had approximately 64% of parents attend which is slightly down on previous years.
As you will be aware, during Week 10 we will be hosting Parent – Teacher Conferences over 2 afternoons. The purpose of these conferences is to update parents on their child’s progress at this stage of 2017, as well as discuss their learning goals.
Parents of students in Kindergarten will base their conference around their child’s Best Start assessment, which was carried out at the beginning of the year. Teachers will also provide parents with some learning strategies which they can work on with their child at home. Parents of students in Years 1-6 will discuss how their child is fairing at this early stage in the year and share their child’s learning goals. All students in Years 1-6, with varying levels of support from their teachers, have drafted 3 goals; 2 being curriculum based i.e. reading / writing /maths & 1 YCDI goal i.e. organisation /persistence. Becoming aware of your child’s learning goals will provide you, as the parent, with a specific area you can focus your support when working with your child at home. I encourage parents to return the invitation as soon as possible so you don’t miss out on a conference. Newcastle School Portraits will be taking our photos again in 2017. They will be visiting the school to photograph children on Tuesday, April 4. Additional information about this will be sent home shortly. Students are expected to wear full school uniform on this day, including black school shoes. Once again this year, the school will be facilitating 2 personal development sessions on Wednesday, April 5, for primary students. • Session 1: (6:00 PM) will be "Where Do I Come From?" • Session 2: (7:15 PM) will be "Preparing for Puberty."
Both sessions will be held in the hall and are designed to provide information for the students and importantly promote healthy discussion between parents and children.
Whilst on the topic of wellbeing, we’ll be offering an information session on cyber-bullying to our primary students on Thursday, March 30. This session will be presented by Leanne Mann from the NSW Police Force.
Leanne has also generously offered to provide an information session for parents at a time to be negotiated in the future. Possible dates are May 9 or June 13.
Later this term, March 30, a P-K Transition Expo is being offered to parents of children due to commence school in 2018. Soldiers Point PS will be represented on the evening by Kate Miller, Suzi Fuimaono and myself. The Expo will be held in the MPC at Tomaree High School from 6:30 PM.
The 2016 Annual School Report is nearing completion. The ASR is a comprehensive representation of the school’s programs, activities and achievements throughout the 2016 school year. I expect it will be completed within the next two weeks. When finalised, it will be available on the school website in early Term 2 and a hard copy upon request. I thank the many staff, students and parents who’ve contributed to the making of the 2016 ASR. I thank the P&C and the parents of Soldiers Point Public School for their continued support and look forward to seeing many of you dressed in lycra this Friday, March 17, for National Ride 2 School Day. This day is being promoted to encourage families to get their bikes out and ride to school thus relying less on motor vehicles & fuel. Term 1 will conclude on Friday, April 7.
Term 2 will commence for staff on Monday, April 24, with a Staff Development Day and all students will commence Wednesday, April 26.

APPENDIX D - FUNDRAISING
Welcome Back BBQ was held on Friday February 17th from 5-7pm
Even though the event was cut short by the weather we have had reports that the event was enjoyed by those who attended. This event is not considered to be a fundraiser but rather a community event and so a profit may not be made.
Cake Stall was successful and made a total of $150
Jumping Castles from Kids Amusements for $550 which has been paid
A big thank you to all volunteers who donated their musical skills, time and baking skills as well as the Soldiers Point Lions Club (who have donated back $500) for conducting the sausage sizzle and Woolworths for their donation of 7 trays of fruit.
Made a profit of $100
Fundraising Committee AGM was held on 21st February at 10am at Soldiers Point Bowling Club
We thank Annette Smith for all her hard work over the last year and welcome Katie Allen who will be replacing her on the Fundraising Committee and look forward to working together.
Some events for the coming year were discussed:
Term 2- Garage Sale April 29th 8am-12pm - Mums Movie Night - Barn Dance to replace School Disco, to tie in with the Term 2 dance classes
Term 3- School Musical Raffles and Stalls - School Family Fun Day
Term 4- School Disco
Woolworths have started a weekly fruit donation to the school which is being given away to the children through the canteen. The fruit is picked up each week by a nominated parent. They confirmed this will not impact on other potential event donations
Garage Sale advertising has started via newsletter and FB site. We will be sending notes in schoolbags soon as well as doing a letterbox drop in the local area asking for donations.
Visited Harvey Norman regarding possible donations or discounts for the items required by canteen. A parent from the school purchased a toaster and a flat grill for cooking pikelets at their own expense but requested their name not be spread across newsletters or minutes. A big thank you to them for their generosity. Requested help with broken fridge on the FB page asking refrigeration mechanics in the school community to contact us and have had a response.
Have spoken with Bronwyn about the cost of the jellybean tables from the beginning of last year and although she could not provide with a copy of the invoice for the original 2 tables due to them being on the old system she was able to provide me with a copy of the invoice for 4 more that have been purchased for Stage 1 classrooms.
APPENDIX E - SIFC
No report as no meeting was held for month of March 2017.
APPENDIX F - CANTEEN
The NSW Departments of Health and Education are introducing new guidelines for all government school canteens. An information booklet will be sent out during term 2 and all schools have until January 2019 to implement these initiatives. In short the traffic light system currently in use will be replaced by a health star rating. 75% of our menu will need to consist of green foods or everyday items and 25% can be occasional foods with a health star rating of 3.5 or above. No red food is to be sold. The Canteen will work towards this outcome over the next three terms with the aim to still keep our prices as low as possible. The Canteen would like to thank Kirsty for organising the fruit boxes from Woolworths each Monday. They have proven to be very popular especially for those children with no money to spend and this certainly helps with our move towards healthier choices under the new guidelines. We will be organising a Hot Cross Bun Fundraiser over the next few weeks with delivery the last week of term. We have picked up four new volunteers in the Canteen this year and as always I would like to thank those wonderful core group of helpers that are always there to lend a hand. Unfortunately I have had to spend some time in Sydney with a medical problem last week and will possibly be away on the odd day for the next few weeks. The Canteen has run smoothly thanks to those fantastic parents who do not hesitate to help. If there are any concerns or misunderstandings regarding this situation I am more than happy to discuss these at any time. I would like to say a massive thankyou to Deanne Cosgrove for her role as Canteen treasurer over the last three years. She is a pleasure to work with and has left big shoes to fill. One of our fabulous parents who wishes to remain anonymous has donated a new toaster and a pikelet cooker to the Canteen. Thankyou so much, this is very much appreciated and makes our hundreds of homemade pikelets we cook each week a little easier to achieve. Thanks Paula Browne
APPENDIX G - UNIFORM
Current Balance: $5541.64 Payments due March: LWReid: $1646.90
All is going well in the Uniform Shop. From the end of Dec to now we have sold $4219 worth of stock. We had to place an order today with LWReid—payment due in March. The estimated stock in the shop is $13,946. We have completed our folder for the AGM and are well organized for 2017. Karen Jones & Brooke Hill
