General Business
· Linda Thompson raised the good point in relation to uniforms that an embroidered badge and higher quality material lasts longer and the general meeting noted that it will consider this for the future and that we had recently had an overhaul and cost was important for Parents. This is worthy of further investigation. Linda also made the good comment that the School should communicate better with the Parents about the book packs, cost, what is included and why they are sold like this. It was noted that quality of school books was high in the book packs and this was a key reason for their sale.
· Report on Tea & Tissues – Liz gave a report on Tea & Tissues and said it was very successful and on behalf of the P&C Liz thanked everyone who was involved. The volunteers were great. The involvement by Kindergarten Parents was great and there were people helping in the canteen and washing up etc.
· Working Party for Welcome BBQ – we discussed that we should put a working party together for this. The general meeting decided tonight to pay the $400 required for the Jumping Castle.
· 2013 Class Contact Lists & Class Parent Representative Update – Privacy is taken seriously and it is necessary that people only volunteer information (are not compelled to do so nor feel that way).
· Parents being notified in advance for end of term Student Recognition Awards – After discussion at this meeting and at previous meetings, the School will consider putting this idea to teachers to notify Parents of these awards. No guarantee of any action. The issues are extra work and responsibility on Teachers and also spoiling the element of surprise for Students versus increasing the likelihood of Parents attending the awards presentations. This is not an easy issue at all.
· Tristen mentioned in response to comments about composite classes from the School Community that the curriculum these days is different from when Parents attended school. It was not as normal to have composite classes when Parents went to School but now the curriculum is for stages so there is Early Stage 1 (Kindergarten), Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2), Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4) and Stage 3 (Years 5 and 6). Students are taught by stage not year and are expected to learn the work for the stage by its completion over two years – so it is actually quite normal and ok now for there to be many composite classes.
· Goals for the P&C – whilst we have many goals the biggest goal that we can achieve for the School is new fixed building blocks with 6 classrooms and a library. Everything else is important however this goal right now is the most important. Hence lobbying of Governments by the P&C has been very active and will continue and indeed increase where possible (Think Shawshank Redemption).
