Reports and Updates
Principal
· Library update: Funding for new library announced by Craig Baumann. Formal confirmation of funding not yet received from DET however preliminary discussions continuing. Initial size and location options put forward by DET Assets with possible construction by mid-2015. Next steps:
- Asset protection zone assessment to be conducted by environmental consultant
- DET Assets to review location options
- Staff developing possible floor plans, shelving, furniture requirements etc.
Consultant to be made available as soon as possible and meeting with DET Assets in August. New asset protection zone requirements apply to any new school buildings including the library. Sharon discussed possible impacts on the koala habitat within the school grounds. Request Assets to outline possible clearing requirements related to different options and how this relates to State environmental planning policies for koala habitat.
Furniture requirements may be considered for future P&C fundraising goals.
· Creative Play Spaces works continuing:
2.0 Seating (above oval) and oval upgrade
3.0 Earth mounds, drainage and mulching area above oval
Earth works done above top field. Need approval by Assets before undertaking next tasks. This has been delayed due to staffing within Assets. Simon continuing discussions with Assets and Soil Conservation Service. Still aiming to finish in spring for optimum grass growing.
· Construction of covered walkway from COLA to Early Stage 1/Stage 1 rooms completed in July school holidays.
· Technology update: Projectors have been replaced in three classrooms. Planning for additional ipads and tablets.
· School zoning changes discussed at recent Tomaree principals meeting. Recommendation for SPPS boundary to be extended along Salamander Way as far as the duck pond. Change to take effect in 2016.
General Business
· Tristen recently submitted multiple Community Building Partnerships grant applications for playground equipment and walking path up to the Remembrance Garden. Ruth to ask Tristen for a list of the items included in the applications.
· Alternative ideas being discussed by local schools for supporting performing arts both within individual schools and across the Tomaree peninsula.
· SPPS student welfare survey currently online for completion by parents/ carers. P&C to encourage parents/carers to participate. Parent forum could follow for discussion of results. Simon and Ruth to discuss further.
· Local trained assistance dog has begun visiting the school to assist students with reading.
· Ruth to follow up with the P&C about planning for future activities and review of previous strategic plan.
