Outcomes from Communication Parent Reference Group held 3 June
2015 discussed. Key findings included:
A broad range of communication modes identified as working
well including the school newsletter and Skoolbag. However participants acknowledged
that no single communication mode worked well for every family and/or was
appropriate for all situations within the school.
Initial focus areas for improvement included kindergarten
orientation evening talk, stage information nights and hard copy communication
materials – branding, consistency and availability.
Ways to improve communication tools and processes in
focus areas were discussed. Identified tasks include:
Improvements to school information book (Brenda to work with
staff)
Use of PowerPoint style presentations at kindergarten
information night (like shown at Celebration Day)
Smaller school tours for new parents at kindergarten
orientation sessions (to be considered with parent helpers)
Development of a “day in the life of a kindergarten student”
video (P&C to consider for 2015)
Keeping the website friendly and up-to-date (Simon ongoing
task)
Development of templates for staff to use for information and
permission notes home (Brenda to work with staff)
Parent communication initiatives – SPPS parent face book page
and PRG / communication sessions evening and/or day – both ongoing P&C
related tasks; need continued consideration and ownership.
Tasks not discussed but outstanding was to undertake an
evaluation of existing communication tools by the target group they are aimed
at (whole of school, stage, class, student). Ruth to do.
Future PRG / communication sessions – before/after school
care needs; ethics classes. Both to be considered at next P&C meeting
